Active ImageBeers around the World (BATW) is a select group of beer connoisseurs. We invite you to tour our site and come back frequently as we will be adding new features and more information helpful to the drinker of great beer from around the world.

We have divided our beer reviews into two sections:

  1. Brewery Reviews - reviews on the available beers and the overall review of a visited brewery.
  2. Beer Reviews - reviews on a single selected beer subject to your tasteing.

We also have a section of News. This has information on interesting beer information from around the world and the internet. We also have a section for beer commercials or videos that we think you might enjoy.

Three State Review
Written by Todd
Wednesday, 24 June 2009 03:43
Just got done with a BATW first.  A 3 member 3 state conference call review.  The three states involved were California, Nevada (Las Vegas), and North Carolina.  Tony enjoyed a brew from the Hofbrauhaus in Las Vegas, Sean a

R.J. King Wingwalker Pale Ale, and Todd a Harpoon IPA in North Carolina.  We tried unsuccessfully, to do a 4 way with Frank in Kentucky but unfortunately failed.  That'll give us a chance to better this one later though.  Pictures should be coming from Sean and Tony as they are on beercation!

Beer and health

Drinking in general, and specifically the enjoyment of beer, is an experience and an act that involves a whole array of requirements and motivations. It‹s not just about being thirsty. More often, vital, individual and social motivations have to be taken into account, too. According to Brillant-Savarin, »it is one of the privileges of man to be able to drink without being thirsty.«. Next to being thirst-quenching, beer has always satisfied its drinkers by being

  • enjoyable
  • refreshing
  • stimulating and revitalizing
  • relaxing and livening things up

Plus: it is healthy. Simply read the following:

Mt Carmel Brewery
Written by Kruzad32

Fellow Beer Lovers:

Over the weekend, I have now had a bottle (at least) of each of these Mt. Carmel beers.  For what it is worth, from this inexperienced beer taste tester, I have found the following:

mtcarmel

Amber Ale- my favorite, reminded me a little of Eliot Ness somewhat.  Much better than Killians.

India Pale Ale- very enjoyable, similar to Goose Island's.

Nut Brown- different and I liked it, I kind of expected it to be like New Castle but it was not.  Had a hint of smoke flavor in it.  Smooth and good.

Blonde Ale- I did not like much.  It reminded me of a wheat beer.  Much like Great Lakes Holy MOses or Hoffbrau House's wheat beer.  after taste lingered.

*** Note, I also had the occasion to share a growler of Barrel House Pale Ale which I also thought was good, but not as good as the MT Carmel IPA.

Obviously, I feel compelled to give this tasting another round or two in the (hopefully) near future since I am still very new at all of this.

If you're in Ohio this week, near a Krogers or Biggs, I urge you to pick up a 6 pack of any of these and try it, and compare notes to mine.  I'm out of town at swim meets all of March, so I won't be able to administer such a test again for awhile but will continue to sample them occasionally during the week.  Perhaps I'll take them to the beach with me in April!!!!

Cheers!

Chris
